CORNWALL IN BLOOMCornwall in Bloom, now in its second year with 66 volunteer groups participating, is a simple initiative which is aimed at small, resident-led communities who want to improve the area where they live. It doesn't matter if it's only a few neighbours who want to tackle local litter, or a larger group who wish to tidy up a grot spot. or look after a recreational area which is perhaps a bit run down. SOUTH WEST IN BLOOMLast year's presentation took place at Truro Cathedral on Thursday 19 September, 2013. St Issey in Bloom representatives eft the village at 9am on this day hoping for GOLD! We returned to the village all very excited after winning OVERALL GOLD and maintaining the Mary Mortimer Rose Bowl for the third year running. The Mary Mortimer Rose Bowl is for overall achievement, covering Horticultural achievement-Environmental Responsibility-Community Participation. The maximum points you can score is 200, St Issey was awarded 200 points!! Here are some of the judge’s comments, from the score sheet. As soon as you enter the village, you can see that the whole community has embraced the “In Bloom” initiative, with a blaze of floral displays throughout the village, which have made a real impact. The floral displays outside the Ring o Bells pub, also has the WOW factor as you drive through the village. It is quite evident that the pub has become the heart of the community, and together with the “In Bloom” initiative has really brought the community together For a village that only started their In Bloom group back at the end of 2010, you have certainly achieved great results, to be in the Nationals this year is fantastic. You are all real “In Bloom” ambassadors. The residential gardens are all well maintained; a great deal of thought and effort has been made by the local residents. Your local Heritage Trail is a wonderful example of promoting the heritage of the village and at the same time showcasing your In Bloom initiative. Using the stone from the local quarry to build the raised walls at Sentry Close also adds to the local history. Special Thanks to the St Issey CE Primary School's Kitchen Garden team, the Ring 'O Bells Inn and the Lost the Plot Allotment team for taking part in the “Its your Neighbourhood” section.
Well done to the Lost the Plot team for gaining Outstanding again this year. The Britain in Bloom (Nationals) results will be published on 12 October 2013. Watch this spot! (Source: Brenda Wright) AWARDS
